A beard transplant in Vijayawada suits men whose facial hair has gaps that time and patience have not filled. Using the FUE method, follicles are usually taken from the back of the scalp and placed into patchy or thin areas of the beard, moustache or sideburns. At GIA Clinics, Dr Sai Santosh does this under local anaesthesia. As a surgeon of the face and jaws, he thinks in terms of facial balance, which is what a beard is really about.
Common reasons people ask
- Patchy growth on the cheeks or chin
- A thin or uneven moustache
- Gaps in facial hair from scars, burns or injury
Reasons to wait
If you are under about 21, facial hair can still fill in naturally, so a little patience may solve the problem without any procedure. Recent loss in round patches is a different problem, and its cause needs checking before any transplant.
Designing the shape
The most important decisions are made before any graft is taken. Dr Sai looks at your facial hair, your donor area and the beard you would like. The beard and moustache lines are marked on your face and the number of grafts is planned. A heavier beard is not always the better one. The shape should suit your jawline and be something you can keep up.
Placement
Follicles are taken one by one from the back of the scalp. Each graft is then placed at the angle and direction of natural facial hair. This detail is what helps a transplanted beard blend with what you already have.
Recovery and growth
- The first days: small scabs form around the grafts, and healing is checked
- After about 10 days: shaving or trimming is usually safe once the scabs have cleared, and we will confirm when
- From 3 to 4 months: growth usually starts to show
- From 6 to 12 months: the beard fills out
Expect around three visits: a consultation, the procedure and reviews.
Worth mentioning first
Tell us if you have an infection in the beard area, take blood thinners, have diabetes or tend to form keloids.
