While you wait for TMJ treatment in Gunadala, Vijayawada, there is a lot you can do at home to calm a sore jaw. This page gives you a practical two-week routine, tells you which signs mean you should not wait, and explains what happens when you see Dr Sai Santosh at GIA Clinics Gunadala, near Hyatt Place.
A two-week jaw rest routine
- Choose soft foods such as soups, curd rice and mashed vegetables
- Cut food small, and chew on both sides
- Skip chewing gum and hard or sticky snacks
- Support your chin when you yawn, and avoid opening very wide
- Use an ice pack for sharp pain, or moist heat for tight muscles
Watch your habits
Many jaw problems are made worse by things you do without noticing. Your teeth should rest slightly apart, with lips together and jaw relaxed. Check yourself at your desk, while driving and when you are on your phone. Avoid resting your chin on your hand, or holding a phone against your shoulder. Keep your head upright rather than pushed forward, as poor posture strains the muscles of the face and neck.
Keep a simple diary
Write down when the pain is worst, what you ate, and when your jaw clicks or sticks. Pain that is worse on waking suggests night grinding. Pain that builds through the day may point to clenching. Bring these notes to your appointment.
Do not wait if
- Your jaw locks open or closed
- You cannot open your mouth enough to eat
- The pain began after a blow or an accident
- There is swelling on the side of your face
- Your bite has suddenly changed
At your Gunadala visit
Dr Sai checks how your jaw moves, how your teeth meet and which muscles are tender, and will arrange imaging if it would help. He will suggest the simplest treatment likely to work. That may be exercises or physiotherapy, or a splint. If your problem persists, TMJ arthrocentesis, arthroscopy or surgery may be discussed in selected cases.
Book a visit
