Wisdom tooth removal takes out a third molar that is painful, infected, decayed or stuck under the gum or bone (impacted). At GIA Clinics in Vijayawada, wisdom teeth are assessed and removed by Dr Sai Santosh, our oral and maxillofacial surgeon, at both our Gunadala and Gurunanak Colony clinics.

Your first visit answers this properly, with an examination and, where needed, a scan, before you commit to anything.
Dr Sai examines the area and takes an OPG X-ray to see the tooth's position, roots and nearby nerve.
Visit 1He explains whether removal is needed, how it will be done and what recovery to expect.
Visit 1Under local anaesthesia, the tooth is removed. Impacted teeth may need a small cut in the gum and dissolving stitches.
Visit 2You go home with written instructions on bleeding, swelling, food and medicines.
Same dayWe check healing and remove stitches if they are not the dissolving type.

No. Wisdom teeth that are healthy, fully grown in and easy to clean can often stay. We remove them when they cause problems or are likely to.
Soreness and swelling usually peak in the first two or three days and then ease. Painkillers, cold packs and soft food help.
Soft, cool food for the first day or two, such as curd rice, idli or soup. Avoid very hot food, straws and smoking while the socket heals.
It is when the blood clot in the socket is lost early, causing pain a few days later. Not smoking and following aftercare advice lowers the risk.
